Chx Clinet, Beausejour Becot, Lascombes Released

Beausejour Becot 2023

7 June 2024

Noteworthy Right Bank releases today from Clinet & Beausejour Becot, along with Margaux up-and-comer Lascombes.  All three estates have made wines that look set to eclipse their 2022s.

Chateau Clinet released with a 29% price reduction on last year.  Typically well-judged and well-priced. this is a Pomerol star known for structured decadence and polish.  88% Merlot with a small percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon, adding to its distinctive complex character.  James Suckling believes the 2023 "may be better than the 2022" here.

Chateau Beausejour Becot is released and the price is down 24% on the 2022.  From the same limestone plateau of Canon, Clos Fourtet, Troplong Mondot and Belair-Monange.
2023 is the first vintage produced in the estate's new winery, "the 2023 Beau-Séjour Bécot has turned out beautifully and looks likely to rival or surpass the brilliant 2022." Wine Advocate

Chateau Lascombes is now out, with a price reduction of 21% on last year. It's a new era for this Second Growth Margaux estate, with Axel Heinz (formerly of Ornellaia & Masseto) taking the helm for his first full vintage, and following a "wholesale stylistic revolution at this estate, which always produced one of the chunkiest, most extracted wines of Margaux" he has "crafted a grand vin of impressive sensuality and charm in the 2023 vintage....  The result is the best Lascombes the estate has produced for many years, and a wine that should inspire genuine optimism for this second growth's future."
