Calon Segur, Gruaud Larose & Chateau Margaux

Today we have the last First Growth to release, along with the wines from the Calon Segur team, and St Julien stalwart Gruaud Larose.

The inimitable First Growth Chateau Margaux is released at with a whopping price reduction of 30% on last year.  97-99 from Neal Martin and also potential maximum scores from Jeb Dunnuck, Antonio Galloni and James Suckling, putting it in the same league as the 2018 (£2600), 2019 (£2625) and 2020 (£2350) and means that there is a strong incentive to buy En Primeur.  97-99 NM - "quintessential Château Margaux."

Pavillon Rouge de Chateau Margaux, the gorgeous second wine, representing 30% of the crop, is also now released.

Chateau Calon Segur is released with a price reduction of 23% on last year.  One of the great names of St Estephe, Calon Segur has been nudging Cos d'Estournel and Montrose for quality since 2009 when Vincent Millet (previously head of R&D at Chateau Margaux) took over as Technical Director.  A vintage where St Estephe excels, this Calon Segur is intense, long and strongly Cabernet.  95-98 JD - "absolutely brilliant and clearly in the top handful of wines in the vintage"

Chateau Gruaud Larose, Second Growth, making classical, poised and structured St Julien.  94-96 AG  "The 2023 is a big, potent Gruaud Larose that will need a number of years to be at its best. This is a terrific example of the vintage at its finest."

Chateau Capbern. One of the very best in Bordeaux at this price level.  "Readers looking for an affordable wine to drink over the next 10-12 years will adore this. Superb." 90-92 AG

Marquis de Calon, Calon Segur's second wine.  "an especially serious Le Marquis... What a gorgeous wine this is."  91-93 AG
