Chateau Mouton Rothschild et al released
6 May 2024
Despite the UK bank holiday, the wines of the Mouton Rothschild stable are now released including their trio of Pauillac Classed Growths:
First Growth Chateau Mouton Rothschild shows its quality with one of the most concentrated wines of the vintage, layered, rich, complete with awesome structure and energy. 93% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot. Released at £2034 per 6, 37% down on the release price of the 2022 vintage making it the cheapest vintage on the market. Limited quantity.
96-99 Antonio Galloni - "The 2023 Mouton Rothschild is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintages on the Left Bank."
96-98 Neal Martin - "Focused and harmonious, it’s velvety smooth with a long and tender finish that has more crispness than the 2022. In fact, I might ultimately end up preferring this over the 2022…it will be interesting finding out in the future!"
98-99 James Suckling - "This is the most structured Mouton since the great 2016"
98-100 Jane Anson - "One of my clear wines of the vintage. Of any vintage."
Mouton's second wine, Petit Mouton is also now available - £832 per 6. 93-95 Antonio Galloni - "The 2023 Le Petit-Mouton is fabulous. It could easy be a Grand Vin at another address"
Chateau Clerc Milon - juicy, refreshing, elegant and powerful. Released at a discount of 18% on last year - £330 per 6. 92-94 Neal Martin - "It's floral and more flamboyant than the d'Armailhac... Superb. If Mouton-Rothschild is beyond your budget—yes, I am familiar with that feeling—then this is where you should look."
Armailhac completes the trio of Pauillac properties - this is deep, dark & richly opulent in 2023. More Cabernet in the blend suits Armailhac, who are clearly reaching for new heights of quality. £204 per 6, released at 18% discount to the 2022 release price.
91-93 Neal Martin "perhaps just missing the panache that elevated the previous vintage. You could argue that this seems more “serious.”
Aile d'Argent, the small-production white wine of Mouton Rothschild is now available. £660 per 6.
Finally from Sauternes, Chateau Coutet. £180 per 12 halves or 6 bottles. 93-95 Antonio Galloni - The 2023 Coutet is stellar. Soaring aromatics and bright acids drive through a core of lemon confit, apricot, mint, spice, passion fruit and pineapple. The interplay of deep, layered flavors and energy is so compelling.
