Rauzan Segla, Talbot, Phelan Segur, Gruaud Larose, Rauzan Gassies

Now released, one of the top Medoc wines of the vintage, Rauzan Segla at £399 per 6*.  The Wine Advocate score of 96-98+ means that it is only outscored in the Medoc by Mouton and Margaux (and ahead of Lafite).  This is a concentrated, intense and sophisticated Margaux that will age very well.  For the quality and the vintage this looks to offer great value and the critics are unanimous in their praise.  With quantities down 45% this year buyers will need to be quick to snap this one up.

Phelan Segur is released at £184 per 6*.  A Chateau on a qualitative roll, the 2020 once again impresses and is named by Neal Martin as his 'Jewel in the Crown' of St Estephe: "Kudos to the team at Phélan-Ségur, who really pulled the stops out in 2020".  This represents excellent value for the quality. 93-95 NM "This impressive Saint-Estèphe has great potential and might well represent the appellation's best value for money."

Next we have a couple of St Julien's, both with reduced quantities and increased prices from last year.  Chateau Talbot is out at £239 per 6*.  Talbot enjoys a strong following worldwide and is always popular, especially when physical.  Under Jean-Michel Laporte (formerly of La Conseillante) quality has taken a significant leap and the 2020 continues this trend: 92-95 AG "a Talbot that marries power, breadth and savory intensity with notable stylishness and tons of personality. Impressive."

Gruaud Larose is now available at £347 per 6*.  The Second Growth St Julien was only tasted this year by those based in Bordeaux; 95 JA "Elegant yet driven with gentle power... A big shouldered St-Julien but with a wide nuance of flavours."

Finally from Margaux we have Rauzan Gassies at £224 per 6*.
