This is a small property with a tiny production of around 1000 cases only. Le Dome has one of the highest percentages of Cabernet Franc in Bordeaux, and so it is no surprise that they have made a beautiful 2018 (80% Cabernet Franc and 20% old vine Merlot), showing beautifully detailed flavours and very fine tannins. New winemaking consultant Thomas Duclos is a rising star (also engaged at Canon and Troplong Mondot) and so since 2016 there has been move away from inky concentration towards a more elegant, effortless style of Saint Emilion.
The owner, Englishman Jonathan Maltus maintains a sensible pricing policy on release. This, combined with a track record of impressive critics’ ratings (especially once in bottle) means that prices of Le Dome tend to rise here. Limited quantities, so please advise quickly if you wish to place an order.
