Tasting Notes

The Durfort-Vivens ‘11 has a slightly hard, gravely nose with a touch of greenness, though not as much as one might have expected. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins on the entry, but I appreciate the overall balance of this wine, very classic and slightly leafy in style, but fresh, minerally and drinkable. Tasted April 2012.

A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc from proprietor Gonzague Lurton, the 2011 Durfort Vivens is superficial, soft and round with a green, herbaceous streak running through the aromatics, mid-palate and finish. If this was an accurate tasting of this cuvee, it is certainly not one of the better classified growths of the vintage.

Score: 83 - 85 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Date: 30 April 2012

Wild violets and cassis nose, very attractive taffeta texture and elegant future.

Score: 16 - 17 Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2015-2025 Date: 16 April 2012

Deep dark black cherry. Fragrant, cedary on the nose and palate. Just ripe enough and that herbaceousness adds freshness. Tannins a bit drying on the finish. Perhaps it needs to be just a bit riper on the finish? (JH)

Light and friendly, with soft-edged plum, tea and incense notes that linger gently through the finish.
