Tasting Notes

The Garcin family has invested heavily in both money and time to resurrect a number of their estates, including Haut-Bergey (as well as Branon, Clos l’Eglise and Barde-Haut). The 2011 Haut-Bergey exhibits notes of charcoal embers, tobacco leaf, black currants, cherries, spice and earth. Made from a high dosage of Merlot combined with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it should age nicely for 10-15 years.

Score: 88 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2014-2029 Date: 01 April 2014

While made in a pretty, lighter style, the 2011 Haut-Bergey must take a back seat to the 2009 and 2010. Medium-bodied with notes of tobacco leaf, red and black currants, bay leaf and earth, it can be enjoyed over the next decade.

Score: 87 - 89 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2012-2022 Date: 30 April 2012

Palmer has been on top form recently and is undoubtedly one of the sexiest wines in Bordeaux! 55% Merlot, 45 % Cabernet Sauvignon with a yield of just 20.3 hl/ha this year this will be the smallest production since 1961 with less than 5000 cases made. Concentrated, deep nose with layers of black fruits and coffee. Lots of power on the palate but also very controlled and polished with good freshness. Rich persistent tannins and a long finish.

Score: 16 - 17 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2017-2026 Date: 18 April 2012

Nicely concentrated cassis with a lifted leafiness, good grippy concentration on the palate but it needs time to lose the greenness.

Score: 16 Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2016-2024 Date: 16 April 2012

This has good depth and polish, with pure, ripe blackberry and black currant fruit laced with roasted tobacco leaf, bay and iron notes. Shows solid grip through the finish.
