Fleshy blackberry and raspberry fruit, plenty of spice and good tannic grip, touch of smoked caramel and a wave of nuanced floral aromatics. Actually pretty unusual in classified St Emilion today to have a 100% Merlot wine, making this something of a rarity. Located on the limestone plateau and clay-limestone slopes, 37l/h yield, organic farming owned by Thomas Savare and family. The 2022 Franc-Mayne has turned out beautifully, bursting with aromas of sweet raspberries and blueberries mingled with espresso roast, spices, rose petals and violets. Medium to full-bodied, suave and seamless, it's lively and textural, with sweet tannins and a long, perfumed finish. Superb as the 2020 was, the 2022 Franc-Mayne appears to represent still another step up in quality for this seven-hectare clay-limestone terroir. Offering up aromas of dark berries, plums, raw cocoa, violets and bay leaf, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and fleshy, with a pure and vibrant core of fruit, supple tannins and a long, mouthwatering finish. The label marks this estate's first year of organic certification. Score: 93 - 95 William Kelley, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Date: 28 April 2023 |

The 2022 Château Franc Mayne is based on 100% Merlot that was raised in 50% new barrels. Spicy black cherries, underbrush, leather, and violet/incense-like notes all define the aromatics, and it's a medium to full-bodied, nicely balanced, concentrated Saint-Emilion that will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle age and keep for 15+ years in cold cellars. I love its complexity, and it develops a terrific sense of minerality with time in the glass. Score: 94 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com Maturity: 2030 - 2045 Date: 27 February 2025 |

Beautiful aromatics of red, blue, and black fruits, as well as tobacco and leafy herbs, emerge from the 2022 Château Franc Mayne, a youthful, unevolved, yet pure, concentrated 100% Merlot barrel sample. The tannins here are ripe and nicely integrated, and it has plenty of mid-palate depth as well as outstanding length, all pointing to this being a brilliant wine in the vintage. Tasted twice. The 2022 Franc Mayne has a winsome bouquet with blackberry, raspberry and light rose petal scents. It's well defined with neatly integrated oak. The palate is fresh on the entry, with crisp tannins and a touch of graphite infusing the black fruit tones with a clean and precise finish. There's good sapidity here. This is definitely worth seeking out. Score: 93 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2030-2045 Date: 12 February 2025 |

The 2022 Franc Mayne is beautiful but also very young. Readers will have to be patient, as the 2022 is a big, dense wine. A blast of dark red-toned fruit, new leather, spice, menthol, licorice and dried herbs fills out the layers. Beautifully long and persistent, Franc Mayne has a lot to offer. This sensual style will provide rewarding drinking for the next several decades. Score: 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2028-2047 Date: 28 January 2025 |
