Tasting Notes

The 2022 Climens shows better now than at the Southwold tasting. There are fewer of those petrol scents noted just a few weeks back and more purity with touches of yellow flowers, lemon curd and saffron aromas delivered with fine delineation. The palate is well balanced with a smooth texture and notes of dried honey, vanilla pod and a hint of nougat. Its richness is countered by a silver thread of acidity. This is much more like it! What a superb Climens.

Opens with kick, immediately establishing depth of flavour without being heavy. Makes clever use of bitterness to balance out the opulent apricot, pineapple, mango and nectarine fruits, think thickly sliced fennel-infused marmalade. Great quality, a success in the vintage, but be aware that 2022 is very much an opulent style of Sauternes. Harvest October 6 to 23. 7.5hl/h yield, 58% new oak for ageing, 20% wine globes.

The 2022 Climens is sublime. Its balance alone is compelling. Orchard fruit, citrus confit, tangerine oil and exotic floral overtones all grace a totally seamless Barsac that is immediately captivating from the very first taste.
