Tasting Notes

Good quality, there is an elegance that you always find in Mauvesin, with juicy, easy to approach unfussy dark fruits. More proof of the successful approach the Bartons have taken to this vineyard, in a challenging spot that can be impacted by frost. One to look out for.

The 2022 Mauvesin Barton has a tightly wound bouquet that needed a bit of coaxing, eventually offering finely delineated blackberry, cedar and light briny scents. The palate is saline and quite classic in style, with powdery tannins. This tapers slightly toward the finish, but I appreciate its freshness and personality.

The 2022 Mauvesin Barton is a potent, brooding wine. Rather unyielding today, the 2022 gradually reveals hints of cassis, licorice, lavender and spice. I would give this a few years in bottle to resolve some of its searing tannins.

Score: 90 Antonio Galloni, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2026-2034 Date: 28 January 2025

The 2022 Château Mauvesin Barton is terrific, with a ripe, medium-bodied, elegant profile as well as impressive cassis and currant-like fruit, some tobacco and graphite aromatics, fine tannins, and a great finish. It’s a brilliant Moulis in the making.

A polished and pretty wine with blackberries and cherries. Hints of hazelnut. Medium body. Fine tannins. Long finish.
