The 2022 Guillot-Clauzel is a Pomerol from a two-hectare estate that is managed on a daily basis by Guillaume Thienpont on behalf of the Clauzel family. This vintage matured in 30% new oak instead of 50% in the past with malo in barrel. It has quite an outgoing bouquet with predominantly red fruit, wild mint and just a touch of pain d'épices. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and hints of espresso that tincture the black fruit with a bit of mocha toward the finish of moderate length. This is a well-crafted Pomerol, as expected, given the talent behind it.

The 2022 Guillot-Clauzel turned out beautifully. Lifted and aromatically precise, the Guillot-Clauzel is impressive. Floral and spice notes open first, announcing a healthy presence of Cabernet Franc. Red cherry fruit, blood orange, spice, mocha and lavender are beautifully amplified in the glass. The 2022 is the most elegant and refined wine I have tasted since Guillaume Thienpont took over the management of this estate in 2018. This is a gorgeous, sexy Pomerol that will be approachable with minimal cellaring.

The best wine that Guillaume Thinepont has produced to date at this small estate is the 2022 Guillot Clauzel, an attractive blend of 83% Merlot and 17% Cabernet Franc that exhibits aromas of blackberries, violets, iris and sweet soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and polished, with supple tannins and a suave, seamless, perfumed profile, Thienpont's decision to reduce the amount of new oak used to only 30% makes for even greater purity and expressiveness.
