Tasting Notes

The 2022 Croix Canon is a rich, dense second wine in its first impression, but there is no feeling of excess weight. Succulent red cherry, plum, rose petal, mint and blood orange are nicely pushed forward. The 2022 has more Cabernet Franc than ever, as about 20% of the vineyard is being redeveloped. Croix Canon is a very pretty, sensual wine with a bright future.

A terrific effort that will likely number among the values of the vintage, the 2022 Croix Canon offers up aromas of dark berries, petals and warm spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy palate framed by supple tannins and concluding with a saline finish. It will offer a broad drinking window.

Very fine and polished with sweet tobacco and chocolate with green olives. Currants. Medium-bodied with fine and polished tannins with a lovely length. Friendly nature to this. Turns slightly salty. 75% merlot and 25% cabernet franc.

Score: 95 - 96 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com Date: 13 April 2023

The 2022 Croix Canon, matured in 30% new oak and contains more Cabernet Franc than previous vintages, has quite a backward nose initially and demands coaxing from the glass. It repays patience with blackberry, briary and subtle undergrowth notes, with a black olive hint. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, fresh and saline. This is very well balanced with more structure on the finish than recent vintages. Recommended, but don't be afraid to chuck it in your cellar.
