Tasting Notes

The 2022 Clos du Marquis is lovely, unwinding in the glass with notes of inky berries and cherries mingled with attractive floral nuances of rose petals and violets. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and suave, it's layered and concentrated, with a dense and lively core of fruit, beautiful purity and a long, penetrating finish.

The 2022 Clos du Marquis has held on to its generous, perfumed, floral bouquet that shades the preceding Le Petit Lion. This has plenty of black cherry, blackcurrant, cedar and pencil box aromas. It's opulent compared to its peers yet beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannins. It is seductive, with a satin-like texture and a poised, prolonged finish. This has stepped up a level during barrel maturation. It's wonderful.

The 2022 Clos du Marquis is gorgeous. Resonant and quite expressive, it possesses notable textural depth and plenty of presence but never feels heavy. Inky dark-toned fruit, spice, new leather and licorice all flow across the palate. The 2022 will be an absolute delight to drink over the next 10-15 years.

I loved the 2022 Clos Du Marquis, which is a brilliant effort, if not the finest vintage of this cuvée I've tasted. Cassis, graphite, and floral notes all define the bouquet, and it's full-bodied, with ultra-fine tannins and flawless balance. It shows the ripe, concentrated, powerful style of the vintage yet is incredibly pure and seamless, with everything in the right places. It's going to round into form with just a few years of bottle age but have decades of prime drinking.

Cocoa bean, smoked coffee bean, intense tannins, powerful with depth and concentration, dense tannins, cassis and baked plum fruits, a ton of dark pepper spice, and baked earth, expands outwards through the palate, plenty of St Julien character. 34 hl/ha, 53% new barrels, 3.7ph. As of this vintage, the vines that were in le Petit Marquis have been included back into Clos du Marquis.

Structured and fluffy with a blanket of fine tannins. Full-bodied yet agile and floating. Juicy at the end. Excellent finish. Lots of lead pencil and crushed stone at the end. 45.5% merlot, 44.5% cabernet sauvignon and 10% cabernet franc.
