Tasting Notes

Extremely well placed on grave and clay soils, very powerful, This is an estate that I love to recommend, flies under the radar and yet so consistent - if a little super charged in this vintage. It's silky with muscular tannins, sage and rosemary spice, touch of soy and red pepper, clear personality. Vayron family, 9ha, early harvest September 5 to 15 and yet still this has climbed to 15.5, reflecting the intense conditions of the vintage.

The 2022 Bourgneuf is a Pomerol I tasted three or four times. Initially, a couple of bottles perplexed me, but the last two were much more encouraging. It has an intense black cherry and blueberry bouquet with neatly integrated oak and lovely purity. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, a slightly cedar black fruit note and a touch of Christmas cake on the finish. Based on this bottle tasted at Oenoteam, this is a fine Pomerol.

The 2022 Bourgneuf is a potent, ample wine, just as it was en primeur. Dark fruit, lavender, menthol, cloves, licorice and espresso stain the palate. Bold and quite extravagant, the 2022 is sure to be a crowd-pleaser. This is particularly dense, but that is 2022. Bourgneuf continues to move in the right direction. The 2022 is a fine effort from the Vayron family. Tasted two times.

Tasted on multiple occasions, the 2022 Château Bourgneuf never failed to impress. Checking in as 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, it has a deep purple hue as well ample ripe cherry and mulberry fruit, notes of Christmas spice, graphite, and leather, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and a great finish.

Offering up aromas of sweet blackberries and cherries mingled with licorice, violets and black truffle, the 2022 Bourgneuf is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a fleshy core of fruit, supple tannins and a long, resonant finish. From nine hectares of holdings situated below Trotanoy and next to La Cabanne, much of which are characterized by clay-rich gravels, this promising property, now working with consultant Thomas Duclos, is really beginning to exploit all its potential.

A rich and bold Bourgneuf, this is full-bodied and pretty with slightly dried fruit, with velvety polished tannins. 85% merlot and 15% cabernet franc.
