Tasting Notes

Enjoyable, powerful blueberry fruits, orange peel and lemongrass acidities, has pep and lift. More angular than in recent vintages, but maintains estate signature. 30% new oak, harvest September 23 to October 7.

The 2021 Les Pagodes de Cos is a big, potent wine. A blast of plum, blackberry, espresso, chocolate and licorice is dialed up to the maximum. Readers will find an explosive, almost shockingly full-throttle wine for the year. This feels a bit bombastic to me.

Score: 90 Antonio Galloni, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2029-2041 Date: 27 February 2024

The 2021 Les Pagodes de Cos, which represents around half the chateau’s production, has meliorated on the nose since I tasted it from barrel, developing a little more charm and swagger in its mixture of black and red fruit, graphite and mocha. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, quite strict and linear, but at least there is ample freshness here. Saline on the finish and classic in style, the 2021 is just missing a bit of length. Fine.

Score: 90 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2025-2038 Date: 22 February 2024

Dark- and red-berry aromas. Medium-bodied, round and juicy but lacks some intensity. Firm tannins with a bit of bite on the finish so some structure. May develop but not much excitement at present.

Score: 16 James Lawther MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2027-2035 Date: 06 May 2022

Blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavors with black licorice and asphalt. Medium-bodied with round, lightly chewy tannins and a juicy finish. A little fluid in the mid-palate. Bright and focused at the end. 60% merlot, 36% cabernet sauvignon, 3% cabernet franc and 1% petit verdot.

Score: 92 - 93 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com Date: 01 May 2022

Impressively rich and concentrated for a second wine in this vintage, the 2021 Les Pagodes de Cos delivers notes of raspberries, spiced plums and violets, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and salted palate framed by ripe tannins and lively acids.

Score: 90 - 92 William Kelley, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Date: 29 April 2022

Including lots of Merlot, the 2021 Pagodes De Cos is 60% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Verdot brought up in 25% new barrels. It's another deeply hued effort with ripe red and black fruits as well as floral, violets, and graphite notes. Medium-bodied, elegant, and nicely balanced, it's a rather firm, focused Pagodes that will round into form with a few years of bottle age.
