Tasting Notes

Grilled cedar oak, with coffee grounds and bitter chocolate edges, dark fruits also, smoked earth, raspberry leaf and firm tannins. Well constrcted but austere, give this a good five years before drinking. Julien Viaud consultant.

The 2021 Marquis de Terme is a powerful, deep wine, but it has not come together quite as well as I had hoped. Today, burly contours and strong acids dominate. I don’t see much Margaux charm today. Dark red cherry, scorched earth, chalk, white pepper and floral notes struggle to fully emerge from behind a wall of coarse tannins. Perhaps time will help. Tasted three times.

Score: 92 Antonio Galloni, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2028-2043 Date: 27 February 2024

The 2021 Marquis de Terme is a little reticent on the nose, unfolding with blackberry and briar scents, a touch of crushed violet and melted tar. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins and moderate depth, marine-influence with light seaweed and black pepper notes toward the Pauillac-like finish. Fine, but quite a serious Margaux this; I am inclined to mature it for several years in bottle.

Score: 91 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2028-2045 Date: 22 February 2024

Exhibiting aromas of sweet cherries, berries, loamy soil and creamy new oak, the 2021 Marquis de Terme is medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a seamless, polished profile and creditable depth at the core despite the challenging vintage.

Score: 89 - 91 William Kelley, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Date: 29 April 2022

From an estate that has been in the Sénéclauze family since 1935, the 2021 Château Marquis de Terme checks in as 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot that's still resting in 50% new barrel. This ripe, mouth-filling, almost meaty Margaux offers lots of darker fruits as well as notes of truffly earth, chalky mineral, and chocolate to go with a medium-bodied, round, mouth-filling style on the palate. This wine always has a touch of rusticity, but it brings character, texture, and solid mid-palate depth. Tasted twice.
