Tasting Notes

Appealing purity to the redcurrant and raspberry fruits on the nose, with tannins building slowly. Coffee grounds and bitter black chocolate add interest and depth, and although the fruit is flirting with underripe edges, this is well constructed with potential. Should soften over ageing. The 2021 Marquis de Terme has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, bilberry and crushed iris petal scents. The palate is well balanced with sappy black fruit, fine tannins, well-judged acidity and a sapid finish. This actually punches above my expectations and looks promising. I look forward to re-tasting this in bottle because this is the best wine from the estate I've tasted in many years.

The 2021 Marquis de Terme is inky, vibrant and super-expressive. Dark fruit, bittersweet chocolate, spice and licorice are all dialed up. A whole range of floral and savory nuances lingers on the close. Readers will find a Margaux endowed with terrific depth as well as character. I am very much looking forward to tasting this from bottle.

Exhibiting aromas of sweet cherries, berries, loamy soil and creamy new oak, the 2021 Marquis de Terme is medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a seamless, polished profile and creditable depth at the core despite the challenging vintage.

Score: 89 - 91 William Kelley, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Date: 29 April 2022

From an estate that has been in the Sénéclauze family since 1935, the 2021 Château Marquis de Terme checks in as 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot that's still resting in 50% new barrel. This ripe, mouth-filling, almost meaty Margaux offers lots of darker fruits as well as notes of truffly earth, chalky mineral, and chocolate to go with a medium-bodied, round, mouth-filling style on the palate. This wine always has a touch of rusticity, but it brings character, texture, and solid mid-palate depth. Tasted twice.
