Tasting Notes

The 2021 Lynch-Moussas is a terrific surprise, especially as I missed it en primeur. Dynamic, bold and full of energy, the 2021 is super-complex right out of the gate. Wild red cherry, spice, white pepper, gravel, mint and rose petal are some of the notes the race from the glass. I especially admire the wine's energy. This is impeccably rendered.

The 2021 Lynch-Moussas has a well-defined bouquet with blackberry, wild mint and cedar—quintessentially Pauillac in style. It’s quite contained at the moment, but it will open with time. The palate is refined in style, lighter than recent vintages from the estate yet fresh and saline. There’s commendable precision on the finish, maybe just missing a little grip, but it has a nonchalance that is appealing.

Black cherry, raspberry, enjoyable, not quite the same ripeness that I have found in Lynch Moussas over the past few years, but this is enjoyable. As it opens, tar and campfire smoke curl out of the glass. Late harvest helped the fruit get to a good level of ripness, but this is soft on the finish.

Cask sample. Dark and leafy with a hedgerow character. Robust palate, the tannins lording it over the fruit. Chewy and just a little hard on the finish. Old-school Pauillac which could appeal to some.

Finely textured with firm, fine tannins that coat a core of dark berries, cocoa and some tobacco. Medium body with a broad mid-palate. Expansive finish. 72% cabernet sauvignon and 28% merlot.

The 2021 Lynch-Moussas is a solid effort, exhibiting aromas of cassis, loamy soil and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, lively and charming, with impressive depth for the vintage and by the standards of this 62-hectare Pauillac estate, the blend is dominated by 72% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Score: 89 - 91 William Kelley, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Date: 29 April 2022

The 2021 Château Lynch-Moussas is an old school charmer with medium-bodied aromas and flavors of red and black fruits, cedar shavings, and damp earth. It develops some chocolaty, nutty nuances with air, has ripe tannins, and a character-filled style.
