The 2021 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron is another fine wine in this range from Pichon Baron. Soft and caressing, the 2021 offers up an exotic mélange of dark cherry, cinnamon, mocha, blood orange and leather. All the elements are impeccably balanced. Score: 93 Antonio Galloni, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2026-2036 Date: 27 February 2024 |

The 2021 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, which contains a little more Petit Verdot than previous vintages and matured in 40% new oak, has a focused, floral bouquet, its dried iris flower notes marrying well with the vibrant black fruit. An underlying sense of classicism surfaces with aeration. The palate is surprisingly fleshy and silky smooth on the entry, a little richer than expected, though it gains more finesse toward the finish. This Les Griffons is a “grower”—charming after 10 minutes in the glass, and it should age well in bottle. Score: 91 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2026-2042 Date: 22 February 2024 |

Lovely depth and grip through the palate, ruby in colour with violet edging. There is an austerty to the tannins, but also a juice and a sense of momentum. Attractive, if austere. 40% new oak, September 24 to October 7. Score: 90 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2023-2032 Date: 11 May 2022 |

More serious than the Tourelles, the 2021 Les Griffons de Pichon Baron offers up aromas of dark berries, sweet soil tones and cigar wrapper. Medium to full-bodied, taut and lively, 11% of recently planted Petit Verdot made it into this Cabernet-dominant blend.
