Delicate, well balanced, carefully constructed, leaning into the vintage rather than trying to overdo things. Not tasted En Primeur, but this is charming, with rose petal edges, nettle, raspberry leaf and smoked earth, unfussy. The 2021 Cissac has a respectable nose: blackberry and blueberry fruit, not powerful but delineated, with an attractive mintiness. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine depth and a little chewiness toward the finish, but it just pulls up a bit short. Drink this over the next six to seven years. A medium-bodied red, showing plum and light chocolate character with some orange peel. Slightly hard tannins, but good intensity for the vintage. Score: 89 - 90 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com Date: 01 May 2022 |

For many years, this estate, situated to the west of Pauillac, produced chewy, austere wines, but today more work in the vineyards and greater attention to optimal maturity is delivering more charm. The 2021 Cissac is a solid effort, exhibiting aromas of cassis, violets and loamy soil, followed by a medium-bodied, lively palate framed by powdery tannins.
