Captures soft raspberry and red cherry fruits, with smoked earth, black tea, tomato leaf and pomegranate combintation. Speaks of the cooler conditions of the year with a supple ease, and it will be enjoyable for medium term drinking. Owned by the Vayron family, harvest September 27 to October 4, gravel and clay soils.

The 2021 Bourgneuf is a delicate, charming Pomerol. Crushed flowers, spice, red berry fruit and orange peel are all nicely lifted. This is an especially perfumed, mid-weight vintage for Bourgneuf, a wine that has been bigger in the recent past.

The 2021 Bourgneuf has one of the better sets of aromatics on the nose, with a sense of brightness, éclat: black cherries intermixed with blueberry, violet and shavings of black truffle. The palate is medium-bodied with a sapid entry and fine depth, quite peppery in style with ample weight and delineation on the finish. Conspicuously spicy on the aftertaste, this is a Pomerol that I would like to have in my cellar.

The deep purple-hued 2021 Château Bourgneuf should be outstanding, and I love its purity of fruit. Assorted red and black fruits, cedar, tobacco, iron, and leafy herbs give way to a medium-bodied, nicely balanced, concentrated Pomerol that's going to shine for 15 years or more. It shows the style of the vintage in its almost mid-weight, pretty, floral style, yet this is rock-solid.
