The 2023 Coutet is stellar. Soaring aromatics and bright acids drive through a core of lemon confit, apricot, mint, spice, passion fruit and pineapple. The interplay of deep, layered flavors and energy is so compelling.

Score: 93 - 95 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2028-2048

A Barsac with dried-apple, apricot and spice character. The botrytis comes through with a healthy and clean nature to it. Medium-bodied and medium-sweet with a spicy finish.

Score: 94 - 95 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

Beautiful aromatics, fresh acidity that picks things up from the first moment, crisp citrus, mango, pineapple, grated ginger, and a twist of bitter aniseed on the finish. Richly concentrated, reflecting small yields, but once again a wine that shows the huge potential of this style in the 2023 vintage. Harvest between September 20 and October 11.

Score: 96 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2025-2045

The 2023 Coutet has a tightly-wound bouquet that demands more coaxing than its peers. It typically already possesses laser-sharp focus and is less flamboyant than fellow Barsacs, underpinned and sharpened by its limestone soils. The palate is well balanced with intense botrytised fruit, lightly spiced dried honey and orange rind notes, just a hint of apricot in the background, stretching out on the finish that lingers on the tongue. I am not sure it is the best Coutet in recent years, but it is certainly a very fine contribution to the vintage that should age well in bottle.

The 2023 Doisy-Daëne is all class. Lifted aromatics open first. Delicate and understated in feel, with fine balance, the 2023 has so much to offer. Tangerine peel, passion fruit, mint, apricot and a kiss of sweet spice blossom with a bit of aeration. Doisy-Daëne remains one of the most sublime wines in Barsac and Sauternes.

Score: 94 - 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2028-2053

There’s a refined focus and beauty to this, with spice and honey character. Medium-bodied, sweet and poised. Flavorful at the end, in an elegant way, with density and tension.

Score: 93 - 94 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

Pale gold with vibrant edging, starts with concentrated and intense clove spices, luscious apricot fruit, opening to show juicy, sculpted slivers of steel and lime juice. A return to form for this excellent Barsac wine after the succulent but unbalanced 2022. Great stuff from this legendary Dubourdieu property, although once again the yields are extremely low and the character is more concentrated than you find in vintages like 2021. Ageing starts with 10 months in oak barrels, followed by 9 months in stainless steel tank before bottling.

Score: 95 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2025-2045

The 2023 Doisy-Daëne, a blend of 80% Sémillon and 20% Sauvignon Blanc, takes time to unfurl on the nose. Notes of lemon curd, dried peach and a touch of marmalade are all nicely defined, developing subtle pithy elements with aeration. The palate is just wonderful. Very harmonious with perfectly judged acidity, it’s extremely pure with a tensile finish. This is Barsac in full flight. It will be outstanding once bottled. Bravo!

The 2023 Doisy-Védrines is floral, elegant and classy. Jasmine, orange confit, mint, chamomile and lightly honeyed, floral overtones all grace this utterly exquisite, beguiling Barsac. Terrific.

Score: 92 - 94 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2028-2053

A focused and pure Sauternes with sliced-apricot and orange character, as well as apple pie and light caramel. Spicy. Medium-bodied, sweet and flavorful. Very pretty and true.

Score: 93 - 94 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

Silky texture, intense and opulent, this has the lift and sculpted acidities of the vintage in Barsac, with concentrated apricot, nectarine and pineapple. 9hl/ha yield.

Score: 94 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2025-2040

The 2023 Doisy-Védrines doesn't quite deliver the complexity of the Doisy-Daëne on the nose, though it opens nicely with aeration to reveal lemon sherbet, saffron and light tangerine aromas. It is not as immediate as other Sauternes in this vintage, but it does exude elegance. The palate is well balanced with a very pure, tensile opening. This seems to be a less "fat" Doisy-Védrines compared to other vintages, possessing a fine bead of acidity. It’s lightly spiced with a tang of marmalade and quince toward the finish. This is a noble Barsac in the making.

The 2023 de Fargues is shockingly young, deep and powerful. I am especially drawn to the wine's textural presence and overall intensity, as the aromatics are rather reticent. The 2023 is embryonic and not totally put together. Even so, I find it super intriguing. Orange marmalade, ripe pear and exotic floral notes abound.

Score: 94 - 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2030-2043

A full-bodied Sauternes with dried-pineapple, honey, spice and caramel character. Tarte tatin. Very sweet and intense in a classic, traditional Sauternes way.

Score: 95 - 96 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com

The 2023 Château de Fargues was picked over two tries through the vineyard between October 2 and 12. That represents an extremely quick harvest, as there was concern that there would be too much richness that would make it difficult for the yeasts to do their job. The 2023 has a fragrant bouquet that delivers the intensity that de Fargues always brings to the table: copious marmalade, quince and dried honey aromas with just a hint of melted candle wax. The palate is very well balanced, its impressive weight matched by tension in the mouth. This is not the most persistent de Fargues in recent years, but there is a lovely spicy aftertaste. It will broaden with bottle age. Excellent.
