Sweet almost toffeed fruit with a touch of spiced mocha. Then much fresher and juicier on the palate. Grainy fresh tannins and long finish. Rich, dense but well balanced. Score: 17 Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2012-2016 13 February 2009 |

A noble, complex nose of flowers, beef blood, black currants, licorice, and truffles reveals surprising evolution. The full-bodied, powerful wine exhibits stunning concentration, beautiful richness, sweet tannin, and a long finish. A blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon (all from a bio-dynamically farmed vineyard), the 2004 Pavie-Macquin is another dazzling success from the brilliant winemaking team of Stephane Derenoncourt and Nicolas Thienpont. Score: 93 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2012-2028 01 June 2007 |

The dense purple-hued 2004 Pavie-Macquin possesses huge tannins, superb intensity, and aromas of pen ink intermixed with graphite, truffles, lead pencil, creme de cassis, and incense. Powerful, dense notes are infused with a striking minerality as well as a hint of licorice. This super-concentrated, rich St.-Emilion is meant for true as well as patient connoisseurs. Score: 91 - 93 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2012-2028 01 June 2006 |

One of the vintage’s most impressive offerings, the 2004 Pavie-Macquin is a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon from a bio-dynamically farmed vineyard. It offers an inky/purple color as well as a sumptuous perfume of creosote, blackberries, cassis, incense, and a balsamic character. This full-bodied, rich 2004 is one of the most concentrated wines of the vintage with more texture than most. A brilliant effort, it admirably displays the high quality of this estate as well as its noble terroir. A wine for true connoisseurs, it should be at its peak between 2011-2025+. Score: 92 - 95 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2011-2025 30 April 2005 |

Deep ruby-red. Black cherry, exotic oak spices and mint on the nose, with some suggestions of riper fruits. Sweet, intense and densely packed, with firm underlying structure and a cool-site character giving shape and energy to the flavors of dark cherry, cassis, truffle and violet. Very shapely wine. Finishes with chewy, ripe tannins and sneaky length. Score: 91 Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 01 May 2007 |

Aromas of crushed blackberry and cherry follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins, a lovely core of ripe fruit and a long, caressing finish. Best after 2011. 4,165 cases made. Score: 90 James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2011+ 31 March 2007 |

Extremely deep crimson. Strangely animal nose. A rather singed quality - very thick and concentrated with ripe tannins and notably dense colour. I’d like just a bit more acidity but the wine certainly delivers bang for the buck. Just a bit brutal. The maker [Stéphane Derenoncourt] has done his best to compensate for those marked tannins. Lots of work went into this wine. Score: 16 - 17 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2010-2020 18 August 2005 |

A rich nose with high extraction. Plum and black cherry fruit. The palate is very fruit-driven, verging on jammy. Blackberry and plum. Fine tannins. A bit over-done. Disappointing for the usually excellent Pavie Macqin. Score: 85 - 87 Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 April 2005 |
