Tasting Notes

The 2012 Montlandrie is laced with super-ripe red cherries, flowers, mint and sweet spices. Firm, chalky tannins give the wine much of its energy and overall tension, but the fruit is decidedly ripe and racy, the key signature of this early-ripening, south-facing site in the Côtes de Castillon. This is a very pretty wine from Denis Durantou.

Score: 89

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2017-2027 01 January 2016

From the famous Pomerol producer and owner of L’Eglise Clinet, Denis Durantou has turned out a Castillon made from a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. Typical of his wines, the terrific purity, texture and overall equilibrium are flawless. Deep ruby/purple-tinged, with sweet black cherry, plum and black currant fruit, the wine has vivid purity, good acidity and ripe tannin. It is medium-bodied, opulent and best drunk over the next 5-7 years.

Score: 88

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2015-2022 01 April 2015

From proprietor Denis Durantou, this excellent Castillon exhibits layers of black cherry and black raspberry fruit intertwined with notions of spring flowers, toast and lead pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, supple, round and generous, it is ideal for drinking over the next 5-7 years.

Score: 87 - 88

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2013-2020 26 April 2013

Full-bodied and tight for the vintage and appellation with plenty of rust, salt and fruit character. Long and flavorful. Minerally flavors are persistent!

Score: 90

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 23 February 2015

This is layered and beautiful with an iron and spice character with nuts and chocolate. Medium-to-full body, with integrated tannins and a clean and fresh finish.

Score: 89 - 90

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 21 April 2013

75% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, on clay and limestone. Restrained on the nose with just a touch of cassis. Dark and dry on the palate, firm and savoury and not very giving but has a rather attractive severity. Firm, dry finish. (16+ points)

Score: 16 - 17

Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2016-2022 17 April 2013

Very pure, with a racy core of linzer torte and cassis, showing floral notes along the edges. An iron twinge drives the finish.

Score: 87 - 90
