This is muted on the nose, the fruit subdued at first, but with a few swirls some smoky blackberry and boysenberry fruits emerge. Good definition. The palate is medium-bodied with a spicy, savoury quality, just a hint of bitter chocolate in the middle with a fresh, well-defined minty finish that comes across more conservative than the usual flamboyant Angelus. A very fine ’04 for the vintage, but a wine driven more by the Cabernet Franc than the Merlot. Tasted April 2008. Score: 94 Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 01 July 2008 |

Savoury nose. Deep crimson. Round and rich and very sophisticated. Some polish. Well done! Perhaps just a bit too tarry? But well put together (17- Points) Score: 17 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2012-2020 20 June 2008 |

This 7,500-case blend of 62% Merlot and 38% Cabernet Franc is one of the strongest wines of the vintage. A deep blue/purple hue is accompanied by classic aromas of smoky blueberries and blackberries as well as incense and floral notes in the background. A beautiful texture, opulence, flamboyance, and purity characterize this stunningly deep, full-bodied effort, another great success from proprietor Hubert de Bouard. Score: 95 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2009-2022 01 June 2007 |

Deep ruby. Wild aromas of plum, redcurrant, game, underbrush and flowers; hints of liqueur-like superripeness. Supple and suave but also rich and large-scaled; seriously concentrated and deep for the vintage but less sweet than the 2005. This boasts lovely texture and broad, ripe tannins but I find more intensity and incipient complexity-not to mention purity and lift-in the young 2006. Score: 91 Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 01 May 2007 |

Dark ruby in color, with coffee bean, meat and berry aromas. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a medium finish. I love the texture. Balanced and stylish. Best after 2010. 8,330 cases made. Score: 91 James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2010+ 31 March 2007 |
