Tasting Notes

An ultra-pure and highly complex nose of honeysuckle and essence of ripe pear liqueur introduces the silky and equally pure mineral-inflected middle weight flavors. There is a wonderfully clean and citrusy character to the driving, energetic and linear finish that despite the elevated sense of verve comes across as almost delicate. This should be fabulous in time as is one of the better vintages for this wine in a while.

Bright yellow. Sexy aromas of peach, spices, minerals and nut oil. Densely packed and powerful but a bit perturbed in its current form, with a recent SO2 addition accentuating the wine's acidity. Subtle notes of white pepper and wild herbs emerge with air to complicate the white peach and mineral flavors. Very juicy wine with superb depth and inner-mouth tension. Finishes with atypical energy for this cuvee and sneaky length.

The 2010 Puligny-Montrachet Pucelles is a totally complete wine. It brings together the expressive bouquet and minerality of Combettes with some of the expressive fruit of the Folatieres. Vivid and multi-dimensional in the glass, the Pucelles wraps around the palate with serious intensity. Citrus, white flowers and green pears linger on the highly nuanced, refined finish. Today, though, the 2010 is incredibly tight. Its pedigree is impossible to miss. Leflaive’s Pucelles is easily one of the highlights of the vintage.
