Tasting Notes

The 2013 du Tertre has a light, pencil lead bouquet that is calling out for more fruit. It disconcertingly loses some vigor in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with tart cherry fruit on the entry, quite high acidity with a raw and abrasive finish. There are much better wines in recent vintages, but you probably know that already. Also tasted at the château in March 2016 with consistent notes.

Score: 85

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2016-2023 28 October 2016

The du Tertre has a focused bouquet of red berries and rose petals, nicely defined even if it does lack intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins on the entry. It is missing finesse and delineation, although it does have satisfactory length. Tasted April 2014.

Score: 86 - 88

Pronounced nose with liquorice and slightly medicinal notes. Gentle texture with reasonable weight of cherry fruit and hint of char on the finish.

Albany Vintners, - 01 April 2014

Grilled herbs, smoke, game, tobacco and earthiness are some of the notes that inform the 2013 Chateau du Tertre. Although quite pretty in the glass, the 2013 lacks depth and mid-palate presence, something that may become more accentuated over time.

Score: 85 - 88

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com 01 April 2014

Sweet black cherry fruit, then a dilute palate. Very straightforward, with accessible, softened tannins and refreshing acid. (15.5)

Jancis Robinson MW, Richard Hemming, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2015-2019 01 April 2014

Direct, with a polished feel to the plum and bing cherry fruit. Finish is inlaid with modest red licorice and sweet spice notes.

Score: 86 - 89

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator 01 April 2014

Deep colour and quite lifted cassis fruit, good natural ripeness and nice structure and length.

Score: 88

Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2017-2027 01 April 2014

This is really excellent for the vintage. A beautiful wine with berry, hints of hazelnut and chocolate. Medium body, fine tannins and a savory finish. The warmer soils in Tertre helped in the coolness of 2013.

Score: 91 - 92
