Tasting Notes

This d’Angludet has a slightly feral nose with black fruits, tobacco and some sweaty saddle. It should have more fruit intensity at this stage. The palate is fairly tannic but lacks the proportionate fruit concentration. Blackberry, black plum with a touch of tar towards the abrasive finish that lacks both harmony and finesse. Average. Drink now-2015. Tasted November 2006.

Score: 85

Notably deep crimson. Full and sweet on the nose - really rather nice for a 2002 even if not the purest. It seems to have been pumped up somehow - a 2002 on steroids? Fresh drink with a dry finish.

Score: 15 - 16

This is an unqualified sleeper of the vintage, a beautifully opulent, rich, dense, ruby/purple-colored wine with sweet cassis fruit intermixed with some licorice and resiny notes. Quite full-bodied, pure, with good, sweet fruit covering moderate levels of tannin, this is a beauty and an undeniable bargain for a wine of this quality. In fact, I’m not sure that it’s not even better than my rating.

Score: 89

Deep, saturated ruby. High-pitched but rather mute aromas of blackberry, kirsch and licorice. Dense, chunky and tight, with cool, slightly medicinal flavors of raw berries and mint. Finishes with somewhat pronounced tannins.

Score: 84 - 87
