Tasting Notes

Dense purple, with loads of blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as hints of smoke and subtle charred wood, this wine is expansive, round, generous, lush and multi-dimensional. This beauty can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years. A beautiful example of wine from this estate, which is using well-known consultant Stephane Derenoncourt, finished 2010 at 14.5% natural alcohol, and seems to be one of the sexier, more developed and evolved styles of the vintage.

Score: 92

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2013-2033 01 February 2013

2010: The strongest Prieure Lichine produced in many years, along with consultant Stephane Derenoncourt, the proprietors have fashioned a wine with true opulence as well as wonderful projected aromatics of blue, red and black fruits, licorice, flowers and subtle oak. Silky tannins, a sexy, generous, opulent attack, mid-palate and finish, no hard edges and well-integrated acidity, tannin and alcohol (14.5%) are all found in this impressive Margaux. Give it 2-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 25. It is potentially one of the longest lived wines made at Prieure Lichine since some of their classic efforts from the sixties.

Fragrant and a touch leafy on the nose. Juicy and energetic on the palate though those fine tannins finish dry.

Score: 17

Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2018-2028 10 April 2012

Dark ruby. A smoky, pretty nose. Medium body then spicy and hot in the middle with chewy tannins and a drying finish. Disjointed.

Score: 89 - 91

Albany Vintners, - 27 April 2011

A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot, raised in 50% new oak, the Prieure-Lichine has intense blackberry, burnt toast and sous-bois on the nose, tobacco developing with time. The palate is better than the nose suggests with fine edgy tannins, a little hardness that will soften during elevage, cedar-infused, broody black fruit towards the tannic finish. Very masculine like many Margaux wine, but very well made. Tasted April 2011.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 19 April 2011

Particularly dark. Heavy and sweet. Creamy and very modern. Satin texture and some astringency. Very chewy and dry on the finish. Long. Some mineral elements. A little bit painful for the moment. Very drying finish. Not very comfortable.

Score: 17

Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2020-2030 18 April 2011

Fine, exuberant yet elegant Margaux fruit, very attractive and always one of the most attractive, typical wines of the appellation.

Score: 17

Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2016-2028 01 April 2011

An amped-up style, with dark, weighty, frankly toasty layers of blackberry, plum and currant fruit giving way to black licorice on the finish. Offers more raw power than finesse and relies on toast more than acidity, but this is a solid example of the style.

Score: 89 - 92
