Tasting Notes

Has Dauzac ever made a wine this good? Deep ruby/purple, with notes of graphite and black currants followed by some spicy oak and licorice in a creamy, plump succulent texture that almost reminds me of a Right Bank wine, this 2009 is full-throttle, dense and super-concentrated. It is an amazing Dauzac. Drink it over the next 25 years.

The 2009 Dauzac reveals more new oak than most of its peers. The color is a dark ruby/purple, and the wine is broad and rich with sweet tannins, a corpulent personality, and plenty of spicy oak intermixed with black currant and black cherry fruit. It should drink well for 20-25 years. (Tasted once.)

Tasted at the Margaux UGC. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot, this has a lively, ripe, joyful bouquet with fine definition and purity: blackberries, wild strawberry, a touch of cedar and sous-bois. Very fine definition. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very good balance...this is one of the Dauzac’s that has been lighting up the Margaux tastings in recent years. Good structure on the sous-bois and tobacco tinged finish that lingers enticingly. Excellent. Tasted March 2010.

Very rich and thick and sweet - almost tarry nose. Massive colour coats the inside of the glass. Quite a monster! Very plush and big and sweet. Most unusual. Could be drunk without food in the noisiest of bars and it would still make an impact. Pretty alcoholic.
