Opaque purple. Higher-pitched than the Termes, displaying scents of spicy red berries, cherry and rose, plus a hint of smokiness. Juicy, strikingly fresh red fruit flavors are lifted by tangy minerality and are framed by silky tannins. Distinctly graceful for a wine with such serious palate impact, showing building spiciness on the long, sappy, focused finish. I suspect that this wine will be drinkable on the young side but it's balanced to age. Score: 92 Josh Raynolds, International Wine Cellar 01 September 2010 |

The 2007 Numanthia is marginally more approachable but it, too, is a dense, layered, voluminous, structured wine. Given the requisite cellaring, it will eventually become both elegant and powerful. Bodegas Numanthia-Termes was sold by the Eguren family to Moet-Hennessey prior to the 2006 vintage. What this might ultimately mean for quality or style of the wine remains to be seen but there is no questioning the performance of the 2006 and 2007 vintages. This rich red brims with ripe, fresh flavors of blackberry and cassis, backed by toasty chocolate and dried spice notes that caress the palate and linger on the finish. Plush yet structured, in the modern style. Drink now through 2014. Score: 92 Winespectator.com, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2010-2014 28 February 2010 |
