Tasting Notes

Composed of 77% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon, the soft, silky, up-front, plush 2008 exhibits a dark plum/garnet hue along with seductive aromas of red and black fruits, damp earth, charcoal and roasted herbs. Consume it over the next 7-8 years.

Score: 87

The largest vineyard in St.-Emilion had surprisingly good yields of 38 hectoliters per hectare (low by the standards of recent top vintages). The final blend was 77% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, the wine was aged in 55% new oak, and it tips the scales at 14% natural alcohol, which is slightly higher than the 2005. Made with minimal intervention (gravity flow, manual punching down a la Burgundy), it is a showy, dense ruby/purple-hued effort with sweet tannin, medium to full body, some unresolved smoky oak, blueberries, black fruits, and a hint of ink. This pure, attractive 2008 should drink well young, and evolve for 10-12 years

This has layers of crushed plum, red currant and raspberry fruit, along with a juicy, briary edge and good minerality stretching out the herb-tinged finish. Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2013. 13,330 cases made.

Deep crimson. Richly boosted to ripeness. Lots of acidity though. Not very easy to taste because of the elevated acidity. Very dry finish. Awkward.
