Tasting Notes

The 2007 Ducru Beaucaillou has a generous red cherry and wild strawberry bouquet armed with very good fruit concentration. The palate is medium-bodied, fleshy in the mouth with slightly lower acidity than its peers. Harmonious and velvety smooth, there is a fair amount of new oak here, but it is very well integrated with a caressing finish. It still has that Burgundian flair. This is excellent considering the growing season. Tasted March 2015.

A dark purple/garnet colour. Again, very pure on the nose, hints of rose petals, raspberry, red cherries - again very refined. This is an excellent Ducru - very fine tannins, very cohesive, not dissimilar to Las-Cases, certainly much more refined than in recent years. Svelte, silky smooth and very seductive. Nice grip on the finish. Good effort this year, a touch better than the 2006.

Red-ruby. Nicely ripe aromas for the year: cassis, lead pencil, menthol, minerals and flowers. Then juicy, intense and sharply delineated, with lovely lift to the fla vors of dark berries, minerals and cedar. Silky-sweet wine with lovely aromatic persistence. And very intense for 2007.

Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar 01 July 2010

Deep red-ruby. Crushed cassis, blackberry, violet, licorice and bitter chocolate on the very fresh nose. Then dense but light on its feet, with lovely ripeness to the silky flavors of black fruits, clove and bitter chocolate. Attractively sweet on the back end, with fine-grained tannins and a suggestion of fig. This boasts an almost chocolatey ripeness and good minerality for the year and surprises with its firm structure.

An outstanding effort from proprietor Bruno Borie, the 2007 Ducru exhibits sweet black currant fruit, licorice, lead pencil shaving, and wood spice characteristics along with medium to full body, a velvety mouthfeel, and outstanding density as well as richness. It is a strong effort for the vintage, and should drink well for 15+ years.

Offers sliced plum on the nose, with flowers and some oak. Medium-bodied, with polished, refined tannins that caress the palate. Builds on the finish. Racy for the vintage. Best after 2014. 10,500 cases made.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2014+ 31 March 2010

A solid wine, with plenty of rose petal, berry and currant character. Full and chewy. Ripe and very powerful. Wait and see, but impressive for the vintage.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator 01 April 2008

Pretty dark, opulent crimson. Scented. Rather compact. Inky and savoury and there’s a recognisable relationship with the grand vin in other vintages. Good! Appetising - I think that’s the first time I have written that about the 07s. Quite interesting rather than super sweet. Fleshy. Good dust! Long and well balanced.

Intense black-red, really good depth and lots of warm fruit, big, fleshy and spicy, with richness and powerful elegance. Drink 2013-22.

Opaque deep ruby in colour. Strongly Cabernet nose, with lots of blackberry, currant and cedar Sophisticated. In the mouth it is full yet measured - quite sophisticated. Good black fruit density in the mouth with slightly chewy tannins and an enduring, richly savoury finish. Finely textured and balanced. A long-term 2007.
