Tasting Notes | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Relatively austere and reserved with more minerality than Richebourg usually displays and it possesses outstanding flavor detail. There is still limited breadth of flavors but the intensity here is impressive as is the length and there is clearly a classiness here that is unmistakable. This is still extremely young and very backward in magnum format and this will require lots of additional bottle age to realize its full potential. The Richebourg exhibits a dark ruby color, as well as flattering quantities of sweet, jammy, red and black fruits. With a husky framework and a sweet entry, this ripe, medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic, spicy, cleanly made wine needs 6-8 years of cellaring; it exhibits the potential for 15-20 years of evolution. The DRC's 1993s possess the vintage's toughness, tannic structure, austerity, and aging potential. They will not be flattering to drink in their youth, and most will require 6-10 years of cellaring. Typical of the vintage, they appear to be the most tannic and structured wines made at this domaine since 1983.
