Relatively generous wood sets off ultra-fresh, cool and restrained aromas of various dark berries, earth, game and floral hints. The rich, full-bodied and once again overtly muscular and powerful flavors coat the mouth with dry extract which helps to buffer the youthfully austere and hugely long finish. This is a 'wow' wine but one that is clearly going to require ample amounts of cellaring. Score: 93 - 96 Allen Meadows, Burghound Maturity: 2031+ 15 January 2016 |

Bright, dark red. Explosive on the nose in spite of some noble reduction, offering lovely floral lift to aromas of black raspberry, red licorice and musky, smoky game. Plush, seamless and very concentrated but utterly light on its feet; in a distinctly airy style, showing as much red fruit character as black. This outstanding, fully ripe, saline wine really stands out as different in this line-up. Finishes extremely long, with chewy, ripe tannins. The 2014 Chambertin Grand Cru, around three barrels this year, is matured in 100% new oak and includes around 30% to 40% whole bunch fruit. It has a very energetic bouquet with intense, compelling undergrowth/sous-bois aromas, with hints of tree bark tincturing the blackberry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied and the fruit here soaks up that new wood easily, allowing the wine to maintain fine delineation and poise. Harmonious right to the finish; this is a very serious, very complex Chambertin with genuine aristocracy.
