Tasting Notes

The 2016 Peby-Faugères has a very ripe bouquet of crème de cassis and blueberry scents, high-toned and a little gregarious. The palate is sweet on the entry, offering candied blue and red fruit, and supple and lithe, although I would like a little more grip and acidity on the finish. Not bad, although it showed better 12 months earlier. Tasted blind at the annual Southwold tasting.

The 2016 Peby Faugères has come together very nicely during its élevage. Heady, exotic and full of character, the 2016 has a lot to offer. Inky red and purplish berry fruit, chocolate, rose petal and licorice all come to life as this creamy, super-expressive Saint-Émilion opens up in the glass. As always, Peby Faugères is quite extroverted in style. Tasted two times.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2023-2036 01 January 2019

Vivid, with racy acidity from the start that allows the copious raspberry and plum confiture flavors to pump along with energy. Very enticing spice treatment on the finish. Has a lavish edge, but its energy offsets that nicely.

This has an incredible finish to it and shows such energy and intensity. Full-bodied yet vivid and energetic. Chewy tannins. Goes on for minutes. Merlot magic.
