Tasting Notes

With an impeccable focus on the nose, the 2017 Pinot Noir Vrede is red-fruited and aromatically floral with soft orange rind and oak tones layered underneath the fruit. The palate reveals the heart of Pinot Noir in an elegant and true manner. The structure is immaculate, yet seductively light. Medium-bodied the finish is cherried with a feral wildness and strawberry-kissed focus that is really amazing. The wine is still tight and is built for aging, packing a punch wrapped in a glove of silk. 7,500 bottles of Pinot aged for 11 months in Burgundy barrels, 28% being first use barrels.

Instantly impressive on the nose, the 2017 Ignis Pinot Noir overflows with focus and precision, boasting of ripe cherry, fresh strawberry and fresh rosehip that move on to nuances of oak with soft baking spices and structured mineral tones. The palate is elegant with a red-fruited stage that is focused and finessed. I don’t want to put my glass down. It's sexy. Medium-bodied, the wine ends with a complex and structured finished. 3,000 bottles were made from Pinot that saw 11 months in Burgundy coopered French oak barrels, of which 30% were brand new. Give this a try, if you enjoy fine Pinot.

The 2017 Ridge Pinot Noir begins with a red-fruited nose that has a tight mineral concentration, with subdued florals and soft oak tones. The mineral edge turns to tart fruit on the palate making this wine a touch tight at present and will take a bit of time to come around. The medium-bodied wine is balanced with a structured and tight lingering finish. Enjoy with food now or let it age for a couple of years in the cellar.
