Tasting Notes

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d'Orveau is showing well, bursting with aromas of raspberries, rose petals, cherries, candied peel and grilled squab. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, ample and layered, with a sappy core of fruit and melting tannins, concluding with a delicately chalky finish.

Score: 90 - 92

Reduction. The mouthfeel of the less concentrated but notably more mineral-driven flavors is much finer but even so the linear and compact finish is very tightly wound. This beautifully delineated effort is excellent but it's definitely going to require extended patience. Outstanding Top value

The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny La Combe d’Orveau, wiped out last year after frost, has a straitlaced, rather reserved bouquet, touches of sous-bois and tobacco tincturing the red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little foursquare and perhaps, relative to Grivot’s other 2017s, just missing a little energy on the finish.

Score: 87 - 89
