Tasting Notes

A new wine in this range, the 2018 San Germano emerges from a single parcel on the estate that is the highest site in elevation on the property. Dark red cherry and plum fruit deliver quite a bit of punch. There’s terrific energy and delineation here. The San Germano is deep and also beautifully delineated, with tons of character. Blackberry, gravel, dark spice and mocha build into the fleshy, articulate finish. The blend is 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Sangioveto. Vinification was in steel while malos were done in cement. Aging was just under two years in French oak. All the elements are so well-balanced here. Twelve Etruscan tombs were found during the development of the vineyard, a reminder of a rich history here that goes back approximately 3,000 years. The 2018 is a fabulous debut and one of the best wines I have tasted here.
