Tasting Notes

Proprietor Alexandre Bonnie has produced brilliant white and red wines at this estate's NASA space age-looking winemaking facility. I remember these wines from the early days of The Wine Advocate, and they were undrinkable swill. That is certainly not the case today. This is classic Pessac-Leognan with leafy tobacco, smoky red and black currant, forest floor, cedar, and graphite notes. It is a medium-bodied wine of impeccable purity, texture, and balance. Enjoy it over the next 15 years.

Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2009-2024 01 February 2009

Proprietor Alexandre Bonnie has been raising the quality level of this estate to higher and higher levels. Although the 2006 will not rival the 2005, it is a classic, elegant Graves offering aromas of spice box, subtle smoke, earth, currants, cherries, and background oak. The wine possesses silky tannins, medium body, excellent to outstanding fruit concentration, fine purity, and well-integrated acidity, tannin, and wood. Give it 2-4 years of bottle age, and drink it over the next 15+ years.

Tasted at a negotiant. A ripe nose of blackberry, hedgerow, a touch of cigar box. Quite dense, perhaps not with the delineation of the Carbonnieux. Full bodied, sinewy palate, just pushed a little too far, with a little astringency and greenness on the finish. Should improve after bottling. Tasted April 2007.

Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 30 April 2007

Dark purple. Very light nose. Fresh fruit on the front palate and very introvert for the moment but the constituents, including a pretty hefty tannic charge, are there. Very inky finish suggests the tannins may be just too heavy and dry but provided this is always served with chewy food...? Mellifluous it ain’t. Falls away a bit on the end.

Offers decent fruit, with berry and earth character. Medium-bodied, with a short finish. Has some balance.

James Suckling, Wine Spectator 01 April 2007

Owned by Laurent Perrier before being sold to the Belgian Bonnie family in 1998. Subsequent investments and the appointment of Michel Rolland as winemaker have ratcheted up quality year on year. The 2006 displays aromas of forest fruits with moderate weight in the mouth. Lots of spicy oak and warmth on the back end before a dry tannic finish.
