Tasting Notes

Leflaive's 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières is showing very well, unfurling in the glass with a lovely bouquet of green orchard fruits, fresh peach, lemon oil, wheat toast and a classy framing of nutty new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and pure, with a refined, satiny, expansive profile that contrasts with the blockier Combettes, displaying fine concentration at the core, racy acids and a long, penetrating finish. While yields were very low in this vineyard, this Folatières remains quite classic in profile.

The most aromatically expressive of these wines to this point, with peach and floral notes suggesting riper fruit than the Clavoillon. Juicy and nicely delineated in the mouth, with an element of rocky minerality giving the stone fruit flavors a complementary saline quality. Finishes with excellent rising length.

A ripe yet cool and airy nose is comprised by notes of green apple, citrus zest, pear and once again, plenty of floral influence. The notably rich and generously proportioned flavors exude both minerality and salinity on the beautifully complex finale. Despite the richness the mid-palate mouth feel is actually based more on finesse and refinement than usual. Excellent. Outstanding
