They do a great job at Phélan of maintaining estate character consistently, and here you get the damson and blackberry fruit of St Estephe, with a full mid palate. The tannins are a little angular through the finish from the fresh acidities but this is an enjoyable wine. Harvest September 29 to October 13. IPT 85. 55% new oak. An upscore, tasted twice. Score: 91 Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2024-2036 02 April 2024 |

The 2021 Phélan Ségur turned out beautifully. Dark, somber notes typical of this Saint-Estèphe are present, but also attenuated by the medium-bodied structure of the year. Red cherry, gravel, incense, licorice and dried herbs fill out the layers nicely. The 2021 is a quiet Phélan Ségur, yet all the elements are nicely balanced. Score: 92 Antonio Galloni, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2031-2051 27 February 2024 |

The 2021 Phélan Ségur has a very appealing bouquet with blackberry, wild strawberry and cedar scents, a touch of black truffle coming through with time. It conveys Saint-Estèphe typicity. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, quite tensile with a fine bead of acidity. It constitutes a linear and perhaps more conservative Phélan that should age well in bottle. Tasted twice. Score: 91 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2027-2050 22 February 2024 |

Deep purple. Deep flavours on the nose – intense! Drier, perhaps more ‘serious’ than de Pez. Fully ripe flavours but still quite youthful with marked tannins on the end. Real drive here as well as length. And a dry, almost drying, finish. Not flattering but true to the appellation. Score: 16+ Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2029-2045 06 May 2022 |

Plenty of cabernet character with currant and blackberry and some fresh-herb undertones. Medium body. Fine, firm tannins. Refined and together. Oyster shell and hints of spices such as cloves and white pepper. Tapenade. Typical for the appellation. 75% cabernet sauvignon, 4% petit verdot and 21% merlot. Score: 93 - 94 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com 01 May 2022 |

Unfurling in the glass with aromas of dark berries, plums and cherries mingled with notions of rose petals, pipe tobacco, sweet spices and loamy soil, the 2021 Phélan Ségur is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with impressive depth at the core, ripe tannins and lively acids, concluding with a long, saline finish. Concentrated and well-constructed, this is a serious wine with a bright future ahead of it. It's a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Tasted five times, twice at the estate. Score: 92 - 93 William Kelley, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com 29 April 2022 |

Tasted on numerous occasions, the 2021 Château Phélan Ségur (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot) makes the most of this challenging vintage and offers terrific purity in its cassis fruit as well toasted spice and violet notes. It has some background oak, medium-bodied richness, good mid-palate density, and outstanding length. Score: 91 - 93 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com 06 February 2022 |
