Tasting Notes

The 2019 Siran has a classically-styled, reassuringly precise and focused bouquet with plenty of mineralité and tension. The oak is seamlessly integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, fine precision and balance, still a bit of oak to be soaked up here but it will with time. Wonderful focus and boasting greater persistence than its peers, this Margaux is firing on all cylinders. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.

The 2019 Siran has a very well-defined bouquet of pure black cherry and raspberry fruit, crushed violets and iris petals, and seamlessly integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied, structured and crisp, with fine tannins, impressive delineation and plenty of freshness on the saline finish. One of the best Siran releases in recent years.

The 2019 Siran has a drop dead gorgeous bouquet with pure blackberry and boysenberry fruit. Touches of crushed violet identify it as a Margaux. The oak is neatly folded into the fruit. The palate is very well balanced with succulent tannins, fleshy and sweet yet with depth and grip. Veins of blue fruit appears towards the spicy finish. This Siran boasts one of the longest finishes that I have ever encountered from this estate. Seriously good.

One of the finest vintages I've tasted from this château, the 2019 Château Siran has a great bouquet of ripe black cherries, blackberries, scorched earth, leather, and cedary herbs. With medium to full-bodied richness, polished tannins, and outstanding overall balance, it's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age and drink nicely over the following 10-15 years. It's an impressive Margaux.

The 2019 Château Siran is another classy 2019 with loads to love. Lots of spiced currants, cedarwood, dried herbs, and chocolate give way to a medium to full-bodied, moderately tannic, mid-weight, yet beautifully balanced Margaux that will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age.

Exhibiting aromas of rich currant fruit and creamy new oak, the 2019 Siran is medium to full-bodied, rich and fleshy, with lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully chewy finish. This is a flavorful, nicely balanced wine that will reward a bit of bottle age.

Just like it was from barrel, the 2019 Siran is a powerful, opulent wine. Raspberry jam, blood orange, mint, wild flowers and rose petal are all amplified in this decidedly heady, sumptuous Margaux. There's not a ton of subtlety, but, then again, who cares? Tasted two times.

Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2027 - 2049 01 February 2022

The 2019 Siran is a dense, potent wine. Super-ripe red cherry, red plum, rose petal, mint, spice and blood orange infuse the 2019 with notable textural richness. This is an especially unctuous style, and yet Siran offers terrific persistence and plenty of character.

The 160th vintage of Siran under the Miahle family, now run by 4th generation Edouard. This is an excellent example of the potential of the soils in this southern stretch of Margaux, located right next to classified growth Château Dauzac. Rich plum and damson fruits, muscular but sappy tannins, plenty of life and balance to this. With waves of grilled oak and liquorice, great quality wine that is delivering on En Primeur promise. Harvest September 23 to October 11.

Jane Anson, Inside Bordeaux Maturity: 2026-2044 17 January 2022

Tight and concentrated fruits, this is knitted down right now, more muscled than many in the appellation and will need a good few years to soften. Clear dark spice, the Petit Verdot is pulling its weight and making its presence felt not just in the fruit quality but the sappy nature of the tannins, springly tightly shut on the finish.

Lovely, soft tannins with a juicy and flavorful palate of currants, slightly toasted oak and chocolate. It’s full-bodied and layered with a plush texture and a long, flavorful finish. Warm and rather flamboyant for the vintage. Try in 2025.

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com Maturity: 2025+ 06 December 2021

A dense, beautifully integrated red with blackberry, blueberry and chocolate character. It’s full-bodied with ripe tannins and a fresh, focused finish. Shows lots of blue fruit and flowers at the end. Siran does it again, after a gorgeous 2018.
