The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Roncières 1er Cru has a rather smudged bouquet and plenty of red fruit but little delineation and overly dominant oak. The palate is chewy on the entry. Quite a rustic-styled Nuits Saint-Georges, with good matière if little in the way of finesse on the finish. Maybe time will allow it to become more sophisticated. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting. Score: 91 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2021-2038 01 November 2018 |

(these vines are 65 years old): Bright, dark red. Blackberry and mineral aromas are accented by herbs and mint; seems a bit shallower on the nose than the Vosne-Romanée premier crus that preceded it in my tasting. Shows less sweetness and pliancy as well, but boasts very good inner-mouth aromatic precision and firmness to the cooler flavors of black cherry, mint and anise. The tannins come across as quite firm, but that's partly a function of the fact that there's less buffering fruit here. This wine also displays a slight Mediterranean aspect, and Grivot likes to serve it with fish. Score: 90 - 92 Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com 01 January 2017 |
