Tasting Notes

The 2019 Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru offers up subtle aromas of pear, hazelnuts and light reduction, followed by a medium to full-bodied, tightly wound palate that's lively but introverted.

Score: 89

ipe and vaguely exotic aromas offer up notes of white orchard fruit compote with citrus and floral top notes. The lavishly rich and seductively textured medium weight flavors contrast significantly with the lemon, bone-dry and borderline strict finish. This is somewhat awkward today and not as harmonious as its 1er counterparts though that will likely change with a few years in bottle. I was very impressed by Jobard's work in 2019 and these are definitely wines to consider adding to your cellars.

Pale lemon and lime. A more restrained nose, far from the madding crowd of 2019, this Meursault-Blagny has kept its freshness. It offers greater tensile strength than the village Meursault, but not significantly more volume. Lemon apple finish.

The 2019 Meursault Blagny 1er Cru, which comes from the same climat as the red (though that cannot be stated on the label), has a well-defined, fragrant praline and almond-tinged bouquet. The palate is taut and fresh with a fine bead of acidity. Lightly spiced with ginger and a touch of rhubarb, it feels quite linear at the moment and does not quite kick on toward the finish. Give it the benefit of the doubt and afford it 2–3 years in bottle.

Score: 89 - 91
