---|---|---|---|---|
Fermented and aged in demi-muid, there are only 700 bottles and 300 mags of the 2015 Gigondas Clovis Saurel. It's full-bodied, creamy in texture and plush, with a notably different, velvetier feel than the other cuvées (which are raised in foudres). Berries, clove and garrigue elements are in perfect proportion, but the wine seems to show just a bit more warmth and maybe a touch less precision/detail than the others. At Domaine Saint Damien, there are four Gigondas cuvées, although the Clovis Saurel isn't bottled every year. It's a small, family domaine with the magnificently mustachioed Joël Saurel at the helm, although son Romain is increasingly confident in the winery. This is a reference point for traditional Gigondas Score: 93 Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2017-2025 31 October 2017 |

the tiny production 2015 Gigondas Clovis Saurel comes all from the La Louisiane lieu-dit and was raised in demi-muids. This knockout wine boasts terrific notes of ripe black cherry and raspberry fruit, complex dried flowers, graphite and hints of oak, full-bodied richness and a stacked mid-palate. Forget bottles for 2-4 years and enjoy over the following decade. Score: 94 Jeb Dunnuck, JebDunnuck.com 19 October 2017 |
