There is more size, weight and mid-palate density to the somewhat less refined flavors that also possess a seductive texture before concluding in a raspy and youthfully austere finish, both of which are exacerbated by plenty of gas. The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is made with 30% whole bunch and 20% new oak. It has a perfumed bouquet with iris and incense aromas infusing the black cherry and cassis fruit, quite opulent and yet remaining nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fresh and quite citrus-like in style, although it relinquishes a little precision as it nears the finish.
