Tasting Notes

The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet, slightly herbal at first but then the intensity of fruit kicks in after five minutes. The palate has very fine structure, quite "strict" tannin with a tightly wound but very pure and sustained finish. Tons of potential but it needs a lot of time. Tasted at the domaine.

The 2015 Nuits Saint George's 1er Cru Les Cailles, which tends to produce low yields, has a rich but much more composed and detailed bouquet compared to the Pruliers this year. The palate is medium-bodied with candied orange peel and brown spices infusing the red berry fruit, fine tannins with a vivacious, lightly spiced finish with great length. This has swagger, sophistication and is just plain delicious - one of Bertrand's favorite wines this vintage and one of mine too.

An elegant and attractively complex nose combines notes of plum, anise, sandalwood, warm earth and various wild dark berries. There is first-rate density to the focused and unusually powerful flavors that deliver simply huge length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. As it virtually always is chez Chevillon, this is a very classy effort. If you can find it, buy it. Outstanding

Bright ruby-red. Very ripe black fruit aromas are currently a bit less expressive and aromatic than those of the Pruliers. Then juicy, detailed and firm on the palate, offering excellent detail and energy to its ripe black fruit and chocolate flavors. Displays excellent concentration and texture in a distinctly dark style. Finishes with serious but very suave tannins that spread out subtly to dust the palate. Nuits-Saint-Georges with compelling depth and refinement. The crop level here was less than 25 hectoliters per hectare, according to Chevillon, who noted that "there were a lot of berries but they never sized up."

Score: 92 - 94
