Tasting Notes

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru offers a mixture of red and black fruit with scents of black olive and just a hint of licorice. The medium-bodied palate delivers grainy tannins, lovely structure and a touch of bitter cherry and gravel toward the finish. Very fine.

Score: 90

With 1.4 hectares in this appellation, Magnien is an important landholder, with rows running from the top to the bottom of the slope. The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is very promising, offering up lovely aromas of rose petal, black tea, cherries and earthy raspberries. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, ample and complete, with a layered mid-palate and fine structuring tannins.

Mid cherry red. Attractively scented with both red and black fruit. Some oak spice showing and all the components not fully knit but all there with sweetness of fruit leading to a long tangy finish. Tannins are definite and slightly thick at this stage but polished.
