Tasting Notes

Rich and suave, with cherry and black currant fruit swathed in an inviting layer of spicy oak. A little shy now, but another year or two should coax all the nuances out. The fine length shows this wine's ultimate potential. Best from 2019 through 2033. –BS

Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator Maturity: 2019-2033 30 April 2017

Bright medium red. Raspberry, rose petal and sexy earthy perfume on the nose. Fleshy and open-knit but with its enticing red fruit, spice and wild herb flavors given added vibrancy and grip by a pungent pomegranate element. This classic, juicy Chambolle wine finishes with a suave dusting of tannins and exhilarating tart red berry lift. A year ago from barrel this wine came across as quite oaky but it has tightened up considerably, with its soil character now dominating.

A discreet touch of wood sets off the spicy red and black currant aromas that lead to bigger, richer and more muscular flavors that manage to retain a good sense of detail on the lingering and well-balanced finale. Despite the solid size and weight this remains very Chambolle in style.
