Tasting Notes

The 2017 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru was showing too much sulfur on the nose, occluding any terroir expression. The palate is powerful and dense, offering a lot of fruit concentration and fine acidity, but then the finish seems a little muddled compared to others in this flight. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting in Savigny-lès-Beaune.

Score: 91

A citrus and mineral reduction tinged nose is comprised mostly of green fruit and honeysuckle nuances. The palate impression is much like that of the Bougros as the big-bodied flavors are dense and muscular while exhibiting excellent power on the only moderately complex if solidly persistent finish.

Score: 90 - 92

Allen Meadows, Burghound Maturity: 2023+ 15 October 2018

The 2017 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur was cropped at less than 20 hectoliters per hectare this year, but it remains quite classic in profile, unfurling in the glass with notes of green orchard fruit, lemon oil and anise, framed by light reduction. On the palate, it's full-bodied, glossy and concentrated, with bright acids, a tight-knit core and a long, mineral finish. It's a promising Valmur.

Score: 92 - 94
